Happy Plastic Free July! Plastic Free July is a global movement to encourage millions around the world to take simple steps together to reduce plastic waste. It’s an opportunity for BYOBottle partners to celebrate each year, shining the spotlight on success stories and broader industry efforts to turn the tide on plastic pollution. From venues & festivals, to artists, fans and industry partners, we are taking collective action to promote innovation and reuse.

Plastic Free July is a busy time of year for our incredible BYOBottle Campaign Partners. Please enjoy these BYOBottle updates and highlights!

➤ BYOBottle – Highlights:
Plastic Pollution Coalition is hosting a Webinar (July 18) on ‘Designing a Plastic free Future with Regenerative Materials’, while Surfrider Foundation is coordinating the largest beach clean up of the year (July 5). Break Free From Plastic has just announced 50 new youth ambassadors are receiving training to coordinate global campaigns to tackle plastic pollution. 

Julie’s Bicycle is collaborating with more than 60 events across the UK to test how a Green Events Code of Practice can be adopted nationally, while A Greener Future has released their 2024 Annual Sustainability Report analyzing 40 festivals across 11 countries and their impacts.

REVERB is working with artists including Dave Matthews Band, Tyler Childers, AJR, ODESZA and Lake Street Drive to reduce single-use plastic backstage and encourage fans to RockNRefill with free water stations and reusable water bottles. REVERB is also hosting a refill station at Thompson’s Point in Portland, ME for the 9th season! r.World is supporting reusables at shows for some huge acts this summer, including Rolling Stones, Maggie Rogers and Billie Eilish, as part of the artists’ commitment to eliminating single-use waste.

BYOBottle founding artist Jack Johnson and his Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation have launched a Plastic Free July campaign to encourage community members to show how they are going plastic free. Each week the Kōkua General Store will team up with Hawaiʻi Makers to give away Hawaiʻi made, low waste products to those who enter the challenge. The Green Sports Alliance has worked with key venues and partners to create the new Reuse Playbook, to share best practices and lessons learned for anyone looking to make reuse happen at scale. Effect Partners is helping the National Sports Center make the 2024 USA Cup and USA Week youth soccer tournaments, single-use plastic-free by encouraging participants to bring reusable bottles and providing sustainable water solutions.
